Student projects published
Three undergraduate members of the PTG have done projects that were published at top conferences in the field, namely AOSD, PLDI and OOPSLA.
Chris Allan (Somerville), Pavel Avgustinov (Magdalen) and Julian Tibble (Worcester) are undergraduate students at Oxford, and members of the PTG. Work they did for their undergraduate projects (or in the case of Pavel, just for the fun of it) was published at top international conferences.
A paper at AOSD was based on Pavel and Julian's work, and it describes how to extend the AspectBench Compiler (abc) for AspectJ. AOSD is the leading conference on aspect-oriented programming.
A paper at PLDI describes optimisations in the AspectBench Compiler, and again Pavel and Julian are coauthors. PLDI is the top venue for compilers research.
Finally, Chris's project led to a paper at OOPSLA . This paper is about a new feature for AspectJ, namely trace matching with free variables. OOPSLA is the main conference on object-orientation.
All three conferences have acceptance rates of 21% or less, placing them among the most prestigious conferences in computer science. After graduation, Pavel and Julian will become research students in the PTG, while Chris has been elected to become vice-president of the Oxford University Student Union.
